Abstract This study aimed to develop a second-language willingness to write (L2WTW) model for foreign language writing classrooms. For this purpose, based on previous empirical studies, a hypothesized framework that describes the relationship between L2 motivation, L2 learners’ attitude, autonomy, self-confidence, teacher/peer feedback, and knowledge of genre and L2WTW were proposed. Then, the model, which integrated a mixture of psychological, cognitive, textual, and contextual variables, was tested by using structural equation modeling (SEM). One hundred and ninety-five upper-intermediate English… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – Monetary de-measurement of taxation using cogni-economic pressure coefficient on a continuous progressivity model: Towards equitable taxation for Kenya

Uncheck the box to turn MathJax off. This feature requires Javascript. Click on a formula to zoom. Abstract Tax derives from subjects’ earnings measured in monetary terms, a principle anchored in financial accounting. The canon of equity, especially the vertical form, sometimes referred to as “ability to pay” remains monetary. However, negating conventional horizontal equity, equal taxable incomes often require employment of different economic rationality levels to earn them depending on the profession or sector the tax payer comes from; hence different cognitive energies are required to generate the same taxable income—disapproving the mere “ability to… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – Towards a Comprehensive, Empirical Model of Language Assessment Literacy across Stakeholder Groups: Developing the Language Assessment Literacy Survey

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT While scholars have proposed different models of language assessment literacy (LAL), these models have mostly comprised prescribed sets of components based on principles of good practice. As such, these models remain theoretical in nature, and represent the perspectives of language assessment researchers rather than stakeholders themselves. The project from which the current study is drawn was designed to address this issue through an empirical investigation of the LAL needs of different stakeholder groups. Central to this aim was the development of a rigorous and comprehensive survey which would illuminate the dimensionality of LAL and generate profiles of needs across these dimensions. This paper reports on the development of an instrument designed for this purpose: the Language Assessment Literacy… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Factors Affecting Differential Equation Problem Solving Ability of Students at Pre-University Level: A Conceptual Model

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: In this study, different factors affecting students’ differential equations (DEs) solving abilities were explored at pre university level. To explore main factors affecting students’ differential equations problem solving ability, articles for a 19-year period, from 1996 to 2015, were critically reviewed and analyzed. It was revealed that combination of four factors; “epistemological math problem solving beliefs, belief about usefulness of mathematics, self-regulated learning (SRL) strategies and goal orientations” have great potential to enhance differential equation problem ability. Based on these findings, a conceptual model was developed and presented in this paper to enhance differential equation problem solving ability. This study has provided several important implications for the curriculum designers and teachers to enhance conceptual understanding in differential equation problem solving, particularly in the developing countries.. Eric.ed.gov – The Effect of Flipped Classroom Model on Students’ Achievement in the New 2016 Scholastic Assessment Test Mathematics Skills

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The flipped classroom model has become more popular and one of the focus of many researchers and teachers in the recent years. The aim of current study is to explore the effect of flipped classroom model on students’ achievements in the new SAT 2016 mathematics skills (Heart of Algebra, Problem solving and data analysis, and Passport to Advanced Math) for the eleventh grade Emirati female students in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. Specifically, this study aims at determining whether there was a statistically significant difference in student achievements in the new SAT mathematics skills between two groups of grade 11 students. Thus, pretest/posttest quasi-experimental design was applied. The experimental group was taught by flipped classroom model, and the control group was taught by traditional instruction methods. The… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Does the Middle School Model Make a Difference? Relating Measures of School Effectiveness to Recommended Best Practices

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Since the emergence of middle schools as distinct educational settings in the 1960s, proponents of the model have advocated for structures and approaches that best meet the particular developmental needs of young adolescents. Middle school researchers have developed frameworks of best practices for schools that have been widely, if not uniformly, adopted. However, there is a paucity of large-scale quantitative research on the efficacy of such best practices. In this study we used state-level administrative data from Texas to estimate the school-level contribution to standardized test scores in math and language arts, along with absenteeism. We then regressed these value-added quantities on indicators of middle school structures, along with research-supported predictors of school efficacy. Results showed that schools with fewer classes in the school day and higher… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – Exploring ableism in Indian schooling through the social model of disability

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract In this piece, I argue that the exclusion of children with disabilities is an outcome of exclusionary practices inherent to schooling. And when exclusion is the norm, it is bound to produce ideological justifications for the systemic problems produced by it. I therefore question whether it is even possible to dismantle ableism in schools without addressing the political economic dimension of schooling under Capitalism. The issue concerning the relationship between exclusion and disablement is particularly pertinent in India today because a far-right party has just been re-elected and a new education policy has been drafted that proposes to provide multiple ‘exit’ options to children, which actually means multiple exclusion options. tandfonline.com – An examination of the structural validity of the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire-Short Form (PSDQ–S) using the Rasch Measurement Model

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract It is important for self-report scales and measures used by educators and health care professionals (such as the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire-Short Form [PSDQ–S]) to have documented reliability and validity. The aim of this study is to investigate the structural validity of the full PSDQ–S composite scale and 11 subscales using the Rasch Measurement Model. 117 healthy children (65 males and 52 females; M = 10 years, 2 months, SD = 1 year, 4 months) completed the PSDQ–S. The PSDQ–S’s rating scale functioning, dimensionality, hierarchical ordering, differential item functioning (DIF), and item and person separation reliability were examined. Results supported the scale functioning, dimensionality, hierarchical ordering, DIF, and reliability of the PSDQ–S composite scale and each of its 11 subscales. Therefore, the PSDQ–S composite scale and 11… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – A Model for Cooperative Student Teaching Involving a Nearby Majority Black University and a Nearby Majority White University.

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Major features of the cooperative student teaching model include 1) a pattern of student teaching assignments within the school system which would provide for proportional inclusion of prospective teachers–from the nearby majority black university and the nearby majority white university–to each school serving as a student teaching facility; 2) student teaching seminars participated in by both universities; 3) inclusion of intergroup relations content; 4) participation of supervising teachers, both black and white. Implementation involves planning and followup meetings with student teaching personnel of both universities and the school system. Student teachers and supervising teachers would be familiarized with the project at an orientation dinner meeting. A series of five seminars for student teachers (two all-day and three half-day) would focus on 1) Intergroup Relations in the Desegregated… Continue Reading
