The main purpose of this paper is to explore the nature and principles of math modeling and to examine its application in educational research according to transcendental realism theory. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Scholars posit that descriptive education research that focuses on the instructional dynamic between teachers and students is perhaps one the most salient research topics that can improve learning and teaching. This case study seeks to describe prospective teachers’ mathematical affect as they engage in “rehearse teaching” in TeachLivE™, a mixed-reality simulated classroom. Utilizing Goldin et al.’s (2011) engagement structures as evidence of mathematical affect, findings reveal that simulated rehearsals improve prospective teachers’ reformed-based teaching and that this improvement may be related to their improved ‘in-the-moment’ affective states. This study potentially connects prospective teachers’ beliefs and emotions as math learners with their behaviors and instructional praxes as novice math teachers. As a case, a national LUMA2020 development program (2019-2020), organized by the national LUMA Centre Finland and funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, was studied in detail. TFA and TF provide alternative routes to teacher certification and aim to provide high-quality teachers to schools in low-income areas. TFA and TF were studied separately, using students in eight states during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years. For each analysis, students were randomly assigned to either an intervention (TFA or TF) or a comparison teacher who taught the same mathematics subject. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: It has been a decade since the article “Math Links: Building Learning Communities in Urban Settings” (referenced throughout as Math Links) was published in the inaugural issue of the “Journal of Urban Mathematics Education” (“JUME”; Leonard & Evans, 2008). The Math Links study, as reported in that article, investigated teacher interns’ attitudes and beliefs about their interactions with urban students in a community-based setting. In that article, it was acknowledged that changing teacher attitudes and beliefs can be challenging, but nonetheless accomplished.
