eric.ed.gov har udgivet: MATHCO is a motivating series of audiovisual and print materials designed to overcome the negative effects of sex bias and stereotyping on the attitudes, interests, and aspirations of girls toward mathematics and mathematics-related careers. The materials teach mathematics skills, demonstrate relationships between mathematics and other subjects, and provide exposure to mathematics-related careers. They are useful for boys as well as girls at the pre- and early-adolescent stage; they are both multiethnic and nonsexist in text and illustrations. Module 2 focuses on patterns, sequences, and equations in language and fine arts as well as in mathematics. The audiovisual script is included, followed by suggested activities and activity work. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: In collaboration with two other research organizations, the authors integrate principles of the BEAR Assessment System with Universal Design for Learning principles to develop and validate learning progressions and an aligned, universally designed formative and summative classroom assessment system for promoting conceptual understanding of number sense/operations for students with Math Learning Disabilities (MLD). This research will help to create an effective and validated formative assessment system for meaningfully and validly diagnosing and promoting student learning outcomes on constructs central to number sense and operations for whole numbers up to and including elementary fractions. The assessment system will offer a powerful tool that will provide teachers cutting edge research and empirically based resources for validly monitoring student knowledge and progress, meaningfully interpreting evidence about student learning from formative… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This report examines mathematical graphing utilities or function plotters for use in introductory algebra classes of more advanced courses. Each product selected for inclusion in this report is able to construct the graph of a given equation on the screen and serves as a utility which may be used by the student for an open-ended exploration of a mathematical concept or by the teacher as a demonstration tool. The products are classified into one of the following types: (1) general purpose graphing utilities; (2) demonstration tools; and (3) special utility programs. In general it was felt that the positive aspects of function plotters far outweigh the negative. The ability to automate the tedious process of plotting the graph of an equation enables students to examine more equations… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This directory reviews 13 diagnostic-prescriptive mathematics progres. Ten of the programs are complete mathematics programs; the remaining three are supplementary programs. These programs are designed for use in one or a combination of grade levels from grades K-9. Each program is outlined according to: nature of program, rationale of program, general goals and objectives, organization of program, materials provided for both student and teacher, classroom activities, assessment of student progress, use of materials; implementation requirements and provisions, cost of implementing the program, how the program was developed, the present status of the program, how the program has been evaluated, indicated strengths and weaknesses of the program, and where the program can be obtained. Description of implementation of these programs for eight New Jersey school districts during the… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This teachers’ guide lists manipulative aids, audio-visual materials, and demonstration materials for use in the elementary school mathematics classroom. Organization of the guide follows that of the California Strands Report (1967-68), as represented by these nine strands of mathematical content: numbers and numerals, geometry, measurements, applications, statistics and probability, sets, functions and graphs, logic, and problem solving. Catalog numbers and addresses of suppliers for all equipment are included. (RS) Link til kilde

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This volume contains three teacher-developed units for eleventh grade mathematics students. It serves as an introduction to logarithms, matrices, and functions. Units include statements of objectives, content discussions, worksheets, and exercises. In the logarithm unit the emphasis is on calculation, while in the matrices and functions units development and proof are considered as well. Related volumes in the series are SE 016 615, SE 016 617, and SE 016 618. (LS) Link til kilde

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This document summarizes the work of the Math Curriculum Project at San Francisco State University. The project developed seven curriculum units for the middle school mathematics program, using microcomputers as a problem solving tool to foster mathematical thinking and develop insights into mathematical concepts. They also created a prototype telephone network that is both a message system and a curricular data base for activities in each unit. Finally, they developed a teacher training model from their experiences in piloting the materials. The report describes the objectives, methods and procedures, outcomes, and dissemination activities of the project. An overview of the units, a network manager manual, a message system user manual, and a list of talks about the project are appended. (MNS) Link til kilde
