Abstract The use of meta-heuristic methods for solving nonlinear engineering and optimization problems is one of the paramount topics that attracted the attention of the researchers. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is an optimization algorithm which has inspired by birds flocking. However, like other methods, PSO has some disadvantages such as problems in finding the best global minimum or trapping in the local minima in some special problems. In some works, the initial particles are randomly set using uniform or… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Evidence Based Education Request Desk. EBE #591D

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Teacher quality research and the study of teacher effects received renewed attention and emphasis with Sanders and Rivers’ (1996) startling finding that teacher effects are both additive and cumulative, persisting up to an estimated two years after the student has left the teacher’s classroom. Sanders and Rivers estimated that a student receiving regular assignments (even by chance) to more effective teachers resulted in differential impact on math achievement by as much as 50 percentile points. Although these findings have undergone subsequent criticism and dispute, they serve to underscore the importance of teaching quality on student learning. This Evidence Based Education (EBE) Request seeks to provide an overview of recent research regarding teacher quality with special concentration on the teacher effects literature. Particular emphasis has been placed on… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Mathematics Attitudes and Achievement of U.S. High School Sophomores Based on Race

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: What are high school students thinking? The purpose of this study was to examine the degree that psychosocial attitudes affect academic achievement in mathematics for students of different races during secondary schooling. Based on a quantitative methodology, data was gathered from a nationally distributed survey involving over 16,000 student participants under the auspices of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Transcript information was incorporated into the analysis, so student math attitudes and student racial profiles could be correlated to courses taken and grades. Significant differences were found when comparing Latina/o to non-Latina/o students with regard to student self-evaluations of mathematics affinity, appreciation and capacity. Subsequent analyses revealed that Latina/os are significantly less prepared than their non-Latina/o peers in terms of the highest level of math course… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – The Gateway to the Profession: Assessing Teacher Preparation Programs Based on Student Achievement. Working Paper 65

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: With teacher quality repeatedly cited as the most important “schooling” factor influencing student achievement, there has been increased interest in examining the efficacy of teacher training programs. This paper presents research examining the variation between and impact that individual teacher training institutions in Washington state have on the effectiveness of teachers they train. Using administrative data linking teachers’ initial endorsements to student achievement on state reading and math tests, we find the majority of teacher training programs produce teachers who are no more or less effective than teachers who trained out-of-state. However, we do find a number of cases where there are statistically significant differences between estimates of training program effects for teachers who were credentialed at various in-state programs. These findings are robust to a variety… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – A Participatory Systems Mapping (PSM) based approach towards analysis of business sustainability of rural Indian milk dairies

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Drawing from the theories of Participatory Systems Mapping (PSM) this study presents an approach to analysing the business sustainability of entrepreneurial dairy ventures in India. The article begins with a general introduction to the small and medium scale dairy ventures in rural India, highlighting the prominent issues and challenges faced by the stakeholders. The second part demonstrates the use of the PSM framework in developing the Stock and flow diagram (SFD). Further, data from a local milk dairy is collected, and simulations are carried out between 2017–2025 using Vensim®. The outputs are analysed, and inferences are made. This study is expected to enable the policy makers towards the development of sustainable strategies for dairy businesses in general and… Continue Reading
